Hundreds of students – and future leaders – got together to do some good in Minot this morning.
The annual district meeting of FCCLA drew around 300 high schoolers today.
(Tim Olson, KX News) What makes a good leader?
For students in FCCLA, it starts with service.
(Payton Aljets, Harvey FCCLA Member) 292 “I helped gather food for the food pantry.”
(Axel McKinben, Harvey FCCLA Member) 289 “We helped them raise money for a new fire truck.”
(Olson) Add a little confidence…
(Rylee Heil, FCCLA District 2 President) 285 “Speaking in front of 300 high school students can be really overwhelming, but it’s taught me a lot and I’m really comfortable around people now.”
(Olson) And you’re well on your way to a life of leadership.
(Heil) 282 “We are the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America. Which means that we are preparing ourselves for the future.”
(Olson) Those future leaders got together at Minot State University Wednesday to discuss business, hold student elections, and come together for a service project – transforming old denim into shoes for people in need.
District president Rylee Heil says FCCLA keeps kids on the right track.
(Heil) 286 “We can have fun without doing bad things – like, you don’t need to go to a party to have fun. You can just meet up with some friends, even do an FCCLA activity and have a lot of fun.”
(Aljets) 294 “FCCLA allows you to be around your friends and get involved in the community, which really helps you out in the long run.”
(Olson) When it comes being a leader, students in FCCLA will be the first to tell you…
(McKinben) 291 “I think I’m gonna try to run for office next year as well.”
(Olson) …there’s always an opportunity to grow.
