Federal Charges in Elbowoods Church Fire

A 22-year-old man accused of burning down the historic Elbowoods Memorial Congregational Church has been charged in federal court.

Rode Vocu is facing a felony Arson charge.

Rode Vocu is being held at the Burleigh Morton County Detention Center ahead of his detention hearing on Monday.
Vocu is accused of setting fire to the church on April 22.

The first started within around 9:30 in the morning and law enforcement had Vocu in custody within an hour.
However, he wasn’t formally charged until this week in Federal Court.
The church sits south of Deepwater Bay, in the NW corner of McLean County.

It hadn’t been used in decades, but former members of the church told KX News back in April, that it was heartbreaking to see it in ashes.

Trial for Rode Vocu is set for August 5th in Bismarck.
