For more than 40 years, musicians of almost every age have gathered at the International Music Camp on the first weekend in June to fiddle around.
The annual Old Time Fiddle Workshop and Contest is going on now at the camp located inside the International Peace Garden.
Dozens of fiddle players from the US and Canada are learning from accomplished performers – and getting ready to go for the title
The head of the Music Camp says it’s a fun way to kick off a summer of music and arts education.
(Tim Baumann, International Music Camp Director) “It’s so much as ear training exercise so it’s not the same classical note-reading structure that we have in our music classrooms with band, choir, and orchestra. So it’s just a lot more relaxed and everyone loves it.”
There’s a concert featuring fiddlers tonight at the Music Camp to kick off the all-summer-long Friday night concert series.
And then the Old Time Fiddle Contest happens tomorrow.
