Four reported dead in shooting outside Annapolis, Maryland newsroom


UPDATED 2:41 p.m.

A suspect is believed to be in custody at this hour, following reports of shots being fired at or near The Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland.

It is being reported that four people are dead.

The Capital Gazette is a local newspaper that is owned by The Baltimore Sun. Multiple people have been shot, Phil Davis, a Gazette reporter, told the Sun.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department confirmed an active shooter at 888 Bestgate Road in Annapolis. A law enforcement source confirms to CBS News’ Jeff Pegues that there are injuries.

 An aerial view shows a massive police presence and people being led out of a building with their hands raised. Medevac helicopters could also be seen responding.

The shooting broke out around 2:30 p.m. on Bestgate Road, Fox 5 DC reported.

Police warn the possibility of more shooters, however that has not officially been confirmed.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Baltimore said they are responding to the incident.


UPDATE 2:32 p.m.:

Several people have apparently been shot this afternoon at The Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland.

Some media sources indicate the shooter has been apprehended but, so far, that hasn’t been confirmed.

There are no reports yet on how many were shot or if there are any fatalities.

The Anne Arundel Police Department says law enforcement personnel are searching the building where the shots were originally reported..
