Funding Formula Change has Oil Counties Worried

Oil producing counties are worried about a proposed change to the oil distribution formula.

According to one County Commissioner the legislature is proposing cutting two-thirds of the revenue gained from the oil production tax.

Not only that, but lawmakers want to redistribute that money to go to more non-oil producing counties…instead of sending it back to the counties affected by the oil industry.

“So we’ll take about 2/3 less than what we had in the last biennium,” said Daryl Dukart of the Western Dakota Energy Association.

For cities like Dickinson.. Minot.. and Williston.. this new proposal would take an additional 3 million of funding.

The new Williston Basin airport was really depending on this funding for a new project…but now it might be put on hold.
