For years, an area of land in Garrison has been called park but it hasn’t been a place that people utilize.

Now, the city is trying to change that.

Wilderness Park over time was damaged by high water tables.

The city cleaned that out, blocked the entrance and exit of the water, and will be putting in aerator to avoid mosquito issues.

They’ve also added a walking path but have plans to put in an angel of hope memorial, park benches, and add to the Frisbee golf course.

“Enjoy North Dakota’s great summer and fall but the other thing is we want this to be a place where a family can come, recreate, and just get away from the hustle and bustle,” said Mike Matteson, Wilderness Park Project Chairman.

Matteson says that the entire project could last about 3 years, but there is enough done for people to use Wilderness Park.
