A rancher in Stark County, ND is preparing to give back to the people who helped him during the drought last year.
Gladstone rancher, Gary Dassinger, will be auctioning off a yearling filly at the Kist Auction Market in Mandan, ND this Sunday at noon.
He is hoping to raise about $5,000, and he will give the proceeds to Farm Rescue.
Dassinger said he had to buy about 50 percent of his hay from out -of -state last year during the drought.
About 50 bales of hay had to be hauled from Minnesota to his ranch in Gladstone, and Farm Rescue paid for his transportation cost.
“I probably would of had to sell off some of the mares . . . some of the breeding stock to get through. I don’t think I could of afforded to buy it without that help from them (Farm Rescue),” said Dassinger
Farm Rescue is a non -profit organization that helps “farmers and ranchers during periods of crisis, due to unexpected injury, illness, and natural disaster”.
It has provided assistance to farm families in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and Eastern Montana.
Since 2006 they have helped more than 500 families in crisis.
