Gold Star mothers is a country wide organization that honors mothers who have a lost a child to military service.
A North Dakota mother was honored as gold star mother of the year this afternoon.
Harriet Goodiron lost her son Nathan Goodiron in Afghanistan in 2006.
She now is active with the America Legion Post 271 of Mandaree.
We spoke to her about the recognition she received.
“It is such a bittersweet feeling it’s quite and honor for myself and for my family and the other three that we lost in the deployment. It means a lot to have them remembered like this and the pain that we have go through is nothing compared to the pain that they went through while they were there,” said Harriet Goodiron.
The organization honors a mother each year.
