Today minority and majority leaders introduced a bill offering interest-free loans to federal employees struggling.
Those loans would be through the Bank of North Dakota. Lawmakers are drafting amendments for the bill, to make it easier for the bank to play its role. With the shutdown affecting 800 thousand employees across the country, and thousands in North Dakota, we asked Governor Doug Burgum if the state is doing enough to help those about to miss a second paycheck.
Gov. Doug Burgum; (R) North Dakota: “I understand that helping people that are stressed due to lack of cash flow through no fault of their own… I think that Congress should step up and do their job and get on to getting open and doing the business of running this country.”
The Senate majority leader says it could be enacted as soon as Wednesday of next week.
