Governor Burgum announces Tribal flags to be on display in Memorial Hall

Governor Doug Burgum announced today during his State of the State speech that the Tribal Flags of Native American tribes in North Dakota will now be displayed in Memorial Hall.

Attempts in the 2015 and 2017 legislative session to pass a bill which would have displayed the flags, failed in both sessions in the House.

Burgum has said since taking office that he has wanted to mend the relationship between the State government and the Tribes.

The Tribal address given by Native American leaders was pulled from the 2017 Legislative Session.

That Tribal address was reintroduced this year, and given by Myra Pearson, the Spirit Lake Chairwoman.
