Governor Doug Burgum responds to Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem’s opinion yesterday that the governor overstepped his veto authority.
Burgum says he’s happy with Stenehjem’s opinion.
Even though the attorney general found five of Burgum’s 13 partial or total bill vetoes to be improper.
Still, Burgum stands by his original vetoes and hopes moving forward the executive and legislative branches can work together.
“I think the attorney general’s opinion’s pretty clear,” North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum says. “I don’t think it’s the best use of resources for state tax payer dollars debating these issues on the margin when we’ve got some big issues in front of us,” Burgum says.
Legislative Management will meet tomorrow to decide if state lawmakers should reconvene.
