This afternoon Governor Doug Burgum signed HB 1336 into law.
It’s a bill requiring physicians to tell a pregnant person seeking an abortion that it could be possible to reverse the effects of the procedure even if it has already begun.
Governor Burgum released the following statement:
“This amendment to North Dakota’s informed consent statute was approved overwhelmingly in both chambers of the Legislature, and the Governor signed it. If it gives hope to even one person who has started the process and wants to try to reverse it, it is worth providing that information.”
The bill would go into effect on August 1st, 2019.
Previous bills regarding the topic of abortion have been challenged through the judicial system.
