Students in the region will learn about the animals of the world thanks to a grant awarded to Minot’s Roosevelt Park Zoo.
The Oppen Foundation has given 40-thousand dollars to the zoo that will be used to fund a new education position.
Becky Dewitz says it’s a great opportunity for the zoo to educate children through a full-time person who will reach out to schools and groups rtound the area.
She says the new position will mean a more formal effort at education.
(Becky Dewitz, Roosevelt Park Zoo Director) “We do have our educational program we do with our “Zoo to You” outreach program and we see about ten thousand individuals a year between that and our Zoo Camp program. But there seems to be a very large need in Minot for early childhood and preschool engagement offerings year round. This will give us that opportunity to offer classes in the off season and utilize the zoo as a living institution for education.”
Dewitz says the new position will help the zoo get its message out to people all over the area.
