Residents of Granville have water service again – although they’re under a boil order.
The water tower in town froze up on Thursday after the failure of a pump.
The freeze-up caused a leak in the pipe coming from the bottom of the water tower’s tank.
After that was patched, more problems were found with the tank.
(Karly Randash, Granville Auditor) “We filled the water tank probably about ten feet and then they found another pinhole leak in there. So we had to drain it again and we’re working on fixing it now.”
(Karlain Olstead, Granville City Maintenance) “There’s a repair sleeve on there. It’s not a permanent fix but a temporary until spring.”
The problems forced city officials to stop water service completely on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the city has been offering free bottled water to residents all weekend and today thanks to donations from Red Cross, local stores, and the local food pantry.
And whatever water is left when service resumes will go back to the food pantry.
As of tonight, the tower problems are fixed and water service has resumed – with a boil order still in place in Granville.
