Hot temperatures and wind are the perfect conditions for grassland fires.
Firefighters want to remind everyone to take some simple measures to prevent the worst.
Make sure you dispose cigarette or cigar butts properly and make sure they’re extinguished.
If you’re going have a control burn make sure to have a water resource around.
and keep heavy machinery use at a minimum –as they can quickly heat up and start a fire.
“We just ask everybody to be aware of their surroundings, lawn movers can catch fire they get hot. Do your general maintenance on your machinery keep debris off of them, disregard your burning material properly, if you’re going to have a controlled burn have a water source or an extinguisher those small hand tools help,” said firefighter Jess Sinerius with the Minot Rural Fire Department.
If you notice a fire first call 911– the faster firefighter can get there the better.
