On Christmas Day in Dickinson, ND it was hard to find a place open, but one place that was open was Patterson Lake.
“Just get away from the real life. . . hang out and have a good time,” said Kelly Collis, ice fisherman.
Collis was joined by two of his friends at the lake on Tuesday afternoon, and since none of them have any family in the area, they chose to spend Christmas Day ice fishing together.
“I guess just the feeling of bringing a fish up. . . don’t know what to expect. It could be a monster. It could be a little guy. It gets your hopes up,” said Yon Gallentine, ice fisherman.
Gallentine currently lives in Killdeer and has been ice fishing since he was eight ,and he enjoys Patterson Lake because of the various types of fish it carries.
“. . . the past few times that I have been coming here, mainly Northern Walleye some nice Perch”.
On the Western part of the state it has been a dry year when it comes to snow. in fact somebody is more likely to find a pinecone than snow, but the group of friends said the weather hasn’t affected ice fishing that much.
“The season has been hit and miss. We come here one day nothing happens. The next day you just score,” said Gallentine.
And on this particular day, it was hard to say what gifts were beneath the ice.
“Just got here. . . we just got here, but we are praying it comes through,” said Gallentine
Hopefully they day got better for them, before they went home, and they had a safe and Merry Christmas
