A man who admits firing a high-powered rifle into a crowd of people outside a Minot bar has been sentenced to ten years in prison.
Steven Stewart changed his pleas to guilty to several charges – including attempted murder, as well as unrelated drug cases.
Two people were wounded in the shooting incident outside Sports on Tap in October of 2016.
Stewart initially balked at the guilty plea today, saying the circumstances described in the shooting charges were inaccurate.
But when Judge Todd Cresap asked Stewart if he shot the two people he answered, “yes.”
The plea deal calls for Stewart to spend ten years in prison, with five years probation to follow.
If he violates that probation, a second, ten-year sentence could be imposed from one of the drug cases where he also entered a guilty plea today.
