Heitkamp Announces Federal Funding for Spirit Lake

U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp announced $200,000 in federal funding for Spirit Lake in order to clean up the Rolling Hills Housing area located in Fort Totten and return it back to a useable condition for the community. 

“Strong and safe communities help make North Dakota the place we call home, Heitkamp said in a release, “Indian Country faces challenges on a scale that are beyond what many other communities across our state will have to deal with. It’s important that federal resources are in place to assist in creating safe housing, boosting economic opportunity, and improving public health. These federal funds will help clean up the Rolling Hills Housing area in Ft. Totten to the contaminated buildings do no pose a threat to the health of the community and the families who live there.”

The federal funds were made available through the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Brownfields grant program, which assists in cleaning up contaminated or polluted properties so they can be useable to the community.
