Heitkamp gets a tour of Dickinson’s veterans memorial

The Stark County Veterans Memorial in Dickinson, ND has more than 6,000 names on it of Stark County veterans who lost their lives in battle, and on Thursday U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp got her first look at it.

“I really don’t know of another memorial that is nicer. That’s not to say that there aren’t some as nice, but this is stunning, said Sen. Heitkamp.

The Veterans Memorial was built in 2013 and recently a Veterans Pavilion was put next to it in Memorial Park.

The Stark County Veterans Association had them constructed so veterans in the area would have a place to gather, reflect, and heal.

Many were glad to see the senator stop by and visit with the veterans of Stark County.

“To come to Dickinson, North Dakota in the middle of a storm, and she is currently outside walking in the rain to check out what this community has done. . .  which is fantastic,” said Linda Little, Sculptor for Stark County Veterans Memorial.

The Stark County Veterans Pavilion will have a dedication ceremony on July 1st.
