Hill Brings Boxing To Four Bears

News

For the first time in more than 20 years, North Dakota will be home to a world boxing title fight.
Virgil Hill – who was a competitor in the last title fight in the state – is the promoter for the next one that’s happening Saturday night at Four Bears Casino.

Hill, a North Dakota native who was a silver medalist at the 1984 Olympics and held the light heavyweight title for several years in the 1990s, says the main event will be supported by several matches that include boxers from North Dakota and South Dakota.
He says he loves giving local fighters a chance to move up – and to experience big-time bouts.

(Virgil Hill, Boxing Promoter) “We have a big title fight, the WBC Latino World Championship. It’s the first world championship bout we’ve had here (North Dakota) since I fought here so it’s a big event for us.”

Here’s an interesting note about the Saturday fight card at Four Bears Casino – one of the women featured in our Celebrating Women series last month is the doctor for the fights.
Tribal council member Doctor Monica Mayer and her good friend Dr. Margaret Nordell, a Minot OB-GYN, frequently serve as ringside doctors at Four Bears.
