It’s probably a safe bet anyone born after 1950 has never seen one of these machines in action on North Dakota roads.
It’s a 1930s “nail picker” — a truck equipped with powerful magnets underneath to pick up nails and metal debris on North Dakota roadways.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation posted this image of such a vehicle on its Facebook page.
In two weeks of operation, the nail picker picked up over three thousand pounds of metal debris.
