The Williston High School baseball team says they unknowingly used an ineligible student-athlete on their varsity team for the first eight games of the 2016-17 season.
Due to that ineligible player, the team announced they would forfeit the first eight games of their season. So, Williston’s baseball team goes from a 3-5 record to an 0-8.
The school discovered the discrepancy on their own and reported it to the North Dakota High School Activities Association on April 20th.
In a statement, Williston’s athletic department says the use of an ineligible student-athlete was the result of not properly reviewing his transcripts and was in no way the fault of the student, who will remain anonymous because of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act.
