HS Soccer: Century calls on alum to lead boys’ program

Ryan Okerson was chosen to take over the Century Boys’ Soccer program on June 15.

BPS released a statement on the release:

Ryan Okerson has been selected as the new boys’ soccer coach at Century High School. He is also the head girls’ soccer coach for the Patriots.  Prior, Ryan was a varsity assistant coach at Legacy High School where he had coached for the last two years before assuming the role of head coach of the girls’ soccer program at Century High School. A Bismarck native, Okerson graduated from Century High School in 1997, where he played varsity soccer for the Patriots. Upon graduation Ryan played soccer out at the University of Mary his freshman year and at Huron University after.

Ryan has been a coach in the Bismarck Public Schools since 1998 and has taken on many different roles in both middle school as well as high school, in both junior varsity as well as varsity positions, in many different programs. Ryan has also coached 7 years (2004-2011) at the club level, assuming the role under the Capitol City Soccer Club (Dakota United Soccer Club). Ryan was part of helping establish both men’s and women’s soccer programs at Bismarck State College and coached there for three seasons before returning to the Bismarck Public Schools as an assistant varsity and goalkeeper coach.

Ryan graduated from the University of Mary in 2012 with his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and completed his Master’s degree in Human Performance/Sports Administration in 2014.

Okerson said summer workouts for the boys’ and girls’ team will begin soon.
