International Event Brings Curlers To Minot

News

The rocks are sliding and the brooms are swishing at Minot’s Curling Club this weekend.
The club’s annual Shirtsleeve Bonspiel began this afternoon.

The event attracts curlers from across North Dakota and southern Canada. About three dozen teams are competing.
One team has been coming from the Brandon, Manitoba, area every since the 1970s.

(Allan McPherson, Manitoba Curler) “We just enjoy the bonspiel and the company and the people we get to see and meet and curl against. This is kind of our last year-end finale and we party, maybe a bit too much, but it’s allowed.”

The Shirtsleeve Bonspiel is free for spectators at the Minot Curling Club, located across from the grandstand on the State Fairgrounds.
