It’s National Flag Day and it’s a chance for people to honor our American Flag.

But there is a time when the flag can become unserviceable meaning it has faded or is torn and if it gets to this point – there is a proper and honorable way to dispose of it.

The flags are folded and then burned.

Once the flag is completely burned – the remaining ashes are supposed to be properly buried in the ground.

“We’re having 13 veterans who will be presenting 13 unserviceable flags which will be disposed,” said Richard Reuer, American Legion Member.

Reuer says that they will save the ashes until Memorial Day.

At that time, they will toss the ashes into the river representing all the soldiers who were lost at sea.
