After qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade, the Kenmare/Bowbells/Burke Central Honkers are hoping to

build on last year’s success. The Honkers return 19 players off of last year’s team and led by all state receiver Colton Jesz, the team is hoping to build on its offense and make the most of the team’s quickness.

Matt Hove, Honkers Football Coach:We have a great number, better numbers this year than we had last year, great turnout in the summer work out program. Feel the team’s a lot stronger and faster than they were last year. Offensively, Colton Jesz was an all-state wide receiver last year. He set the school records for receiving, single game, single season and career last year so that’s gonna be a strong point for us coming back. Defensively we’re gonna have a lot of size and speed up on the defensive front.

Dax Nelson, Senior:We all get along a lot better than we have in the past so that’s one thing. Another strength is our coach, he knows what he’s doing. We have several coaches. We used to only have two or three, now we have five or more.

Hunter Rodin, Senior:I mean we got a lot of returning guys with with experience in the skilled positions so should be a good year.

The Honkers kick off their season next Friday at Shiloh Christian taking on Napoleon/Gackle/Streeter.
