Kids invade the workplace today

Part of North Dakota’s future workforce showed up for a career exploration event today.

Basin Electric Power Cooperative is one of many businesses in the nation that took part in “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work” day.

The company hosted almost 50 of its employees’ children for the day-long event. They learned about their parent’s jobs and other careers through hands-on activities like aerodynamics, fire safety and how to wear personal protective equipment.

We talked to one employee who said they’ve been participating in this event since the ’90s.

“And we just really like to do this to expose the kids to different careers and choices that they have when they grow up. So it’s kind of nice for the kids to see all areas that Basin does,” said Paige Fleck/Administrative Assistant/Basin Electric.

Fleck said Basin has more than just electric and utility careers. They have everything from medical services, pilots and engineers.
