Killdeer police chief announces candidacy for sheriff

Dunn County will need a new sheriff in town for 2019, and someone is already throwing his hat in the ring.

Killdeer Police Chief, Eric Braathen has announced that he will be running for Sheriff.

Earlier this month, current Dunn County Sheriff, Clay Coker announced he will be retiring at the end of the year.

Braathen has been the police chief in Killdeer for the last three years and has more than fifteen years of experience in law enforcement.

The Killdeer Police Department has five active officers, and Braathen said that one of his biggest achievements was obtaining funding to purchase body cams for the department.

He said he already has a vision for what he would like to do in Dunn County if he becomes sheriff.

“Over the years I have gotten to know the community fairly well, and I have learned that there is a disconnect between the sheriff’s department and the community, and I would like to use my leadership to bridge the gap”.

So Far, about four people have expressed interest in running for Sheriff: Ed Frawley, Dennis Smith, John Staiger and Tom Morrow.
