Good news for hunters and local businesses…Pheasant season will start earlier this year.

A new law in the state says pheasant season starts no later than October 12th.

In the past, the season would begin on the second Saturday in October.

That would’ve been the 14th this year…but with the new law it will now start on the 7th.

A general manager at a hotel says an earlier season will definitely have a positive impact for local businesses.

“Having an increase in pheasant hunting or days where they can pheasant is defintely a good bridge in that occupany drop if you will,” Darren Bleth, general manager of Laquinta Inn & Suites, said.

He says it will also have an impact on businesses other than the hotel industry.

“This is a type of a draw that really lends to shopping establishments, food and gas establishments, liquor establishments. The hospitality industry in general. This is something that helps out really the whole community and the whole region,” he said.

The new law will also help hunters from out of state so they can plan around bad weather.

Next year, pheasant season will start on the 8th of October.
