One law enforcement officer is saying the constitutional carry bill may not be a safety issue.
Many opponents of the bill say allowing North Dakota residents to conceal and carry without a permit could pose a threat to police across the state.
Stark County Sheriff Terry Oestrich sure doesn’t think so.
Sheriff Oestrich says there are laws in place to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.
He says gun owners in the state are law abiding citizens and this wouldn’t make his job any more dangerous.
“I don’t personally see it as posing a threat because are officers will simply assume everybody is armed which in our area most people are any way so I don’t see that,” Oestrich said.
Sheriff Oestrich says he’s pro second amendment and believes anyone who can legally carry a firearm should have the right to.
