How can you become a leader in your job, organization, or even family?
The best way is to create other leaders in your group.
That’s the message “The Idea Man” brought to local Toastmasters today – and it’s a message Bob Hooey says can work for any of us.
Hooey is a motivational speaker who’s taken his message to people in dozens of countries over the past three decades.
Among his audience today was Jeff Cornell, who’s served in the Air Force for 20 years and wants to be a more effective leader.
(Jeff Cornell, Minot AFB) “A lot of times I’ll be trying to deliver a message and it’s just not getting across as well as I would like it to, so to improve my message delivery and also to improve my listening skills.”
(Bob Hooey, ‘The Idea Man’) “I’ve got goals, I’ve got things I have to do so my job is to work through other people to get it done. So at the same time I’m developing them – they’re learning, they’re growing – and we all win.”
So how can you be a leader? “The Idea Man” says 1-empower others to accomplish goals, 2-act as a role model, and 3-provide guidance and feedback.
He says to remember leadership is about getting things done, not doing things.
