The Lions All-Star Series offered great basketball Monday night at the Event Center.
The girls got things started off first, and the game was tightly contested right up until the final seconds.
Class A held a three-point lead with six seconds to play, with Class B set to inbound the ball. Several passes freed up Macey Kvilvang at the top of the key, but her three-point shot would not fall, giving Class A a 77-74 win,
“It was super fun,” Mercedes Baumgartner said after the game. “Playing against Class B and then Class A girls on the floor, and being able to play with them was just super fun and super energetic on the bench and on the floor.”
Teammate Tylee Irwin added,”Playing with girls you’ve played against all season, and this whole weekend has been really fun. I mean you get better relationships with them and more friendships, so to go out on the court, it’s just, it’s fun playing with different girls.”
The boys then took the court, and they continued the up-tempo style of play that the girls had started.
Late in the first half, Class A took a 32-29 lead courtesy of a three-pointer from the corner. On the other end, Class B’s Wyatt Carr cashed in on a layup to cut the deficit to one point.
Class A would eventually pull away in the second half to earn a 99-82 win.
The teams face off again tomorrow in Fargo, with the girls tipping off first at 6 p.m.
