Bismarck Police is seeking an opinion from the city attorney after they responded to a call of a sheep being killed outside of a Bismarck apartment.
On September 1st at 10:12 a.m., Bismarck P.D. officers and animal control dispatched to 2500 N. 8th street where a man and woman were reportedly slaughtering a live sheep.
According to Lieutenant Scheuer, the sheep was being killed for Muslim religious purposes. The couple is not originally from the United States.
No criminal charges were filed since the sheep is considered livestock. The incident was sent to the city attorney for an opinion because this is the first time Bismarck P.D. has dealt with a situation like this. Lieutenant Scheuer says they want to be respectful and figure out the best approach to these situations.
