Autism affects 1 in 68 children, and it can cost a family up to $60,000 a year. One local non-profit is using World Autism Awareness Day to make a change.

Bisman Autism Families has been an official organization for about a year. Their goal is to reach as many affected families in the area and set them up with the necessary services and support. It started out just with a group of moms, and they’ve grown into a solid network.

“We weren’t really pointed in the right direction. We didn’t know what was out there. And there were things out there, we just didn’t know how find them. So, I feel really driven now to help other families in their journey,” said member Lindsay Turnbow.

BisMan Autism Families is hosting an annual Light it up Blue event this saturday at Horizon Middle School. It’s free to attend – more details can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/658945741129499/
