Over one thousand miles away, residents of North Dakota are feeling the impact of the protests. We visited Minot’s Oak Park and asked what people’s thoughts were on the events in Charlottesville. Although some weren’t aware that there were protests happening, others had strong opinions.
“I think it’s ridiculous. I think that a lot of the hate that’s fueled by it is coming from the media, people not doing their own research. I do think there are people who had the right intentions behind it. You know, especially the people who were protesting it to begin -or got the permit to protest were there for the right reasons, but I think other people like the KKK and people that came in. They jumped on it, and -of course- the idiots outshine the people behind the true intention of it.” said Amanda Felhofer, Minot Resident.
The confederate statue at the center of the protests remains standing in downtown Charlottesville.
