The Minot Air Force Base is being recognized across the country.
Minot’s 5th Bomb Wing won the Omaha Trophy.
Alexus Arthur is live to tell us more about it.
The Omaha Trophy recognizes outstanding units annually that represent mission areas and global operations.
For the fifth time, the 5th Bomb Wing at the Minot Air Force Base is the best of the best in the Strategic Bomber category.
To be selected you must complete a formal evaluation, display your units achievements, demonstrate safety, and show community involvement and humanitarian actions.
(Jamie Humphries, 5th Bomb Wing Chief of Public Affairs) “You have to show what you did throughout the year as far as generating air craft and conducting missions throughout the United States. This just isn’t a North Dakota kind of mission, we perform B-52 missions all over the world.” said Jamie Humphries, 5th Bomb Wing Chief of Public Affairs.
The Omaha Trophy has been awarding air bases across the United States since 1971.
The Commander of US Strategic Command presented the award and thanked our service men and women of Minot for all their hard work.
“War birds, I am honored to accept this award today on behalf of each and every one of you. This is your trophy, congratulations.” said General John E Hyten, Commander of US Strategic Command.
Humphries adds that the trophy reminds all of our airmen that what they do makes a difference in our country.
The 5th Bomb Wing will continue work hard in the hopes of bringing the trophy back to the Magic City next year.
Lauren and Chad… Back to you.
