KREX: Rifle, CO – Jody Haskin, the man wanted for kidnapping 12-year-old Grand Junction girl Raeanna Rosencrans, shot and killed himself Friday morning as police were trying to arrest him near the Wal-Mart in Rifle.
Raeanna was found safe at the Wal-Mart in Rifle Thursday night and police began searching for Haskin, who was still at large. Police said they believed Haskin had camping equipment and was armed while the search was going on overnight.
While there are not many details at this point, police say that he shot and killed himself rather than surrender to authorities who confronted him.
Haskin was found near the same Rifle Wal-Mart where police found Raeanna safe on Thursday night.
She has returned to Grand Junction.
Haskin was accused of taking Raeanna on Tuesday afternoon after she was dropped off from her school bus in a Clifton neighborhood. The vehicle she was seen driving off in was discovered empty in the Rifle Wal-Mart parking lot on Wednesday night. Grand Junction police has issued an arrest warrant on a charge of 2nd Degree Kidnapping.
