Some students who attend school in Mandan will be getting a police escort to class. Not because of safety concerns but because it will make it faster and easier for the bus to get through.28 students live south of a barricade put up on state Highway 1806.Rob Keller, a spokesman for the Morton County Sheriff’s Department, says the bus will be met by a Sheriff’s deputy and be escorted to Mandan schools. He said the escort will go to the Fort Rice boat dock along the route and back to the schools. It will also escort the bus home.Mandan Superintendent Mike Bitz says after the blockade was put up the school began thinking about their students.Bitz says their transportation department and the sheriff’s office decided a deputy escort was the way to get through the check point the easiest.Bitz says the school was only worried about the logistics of busing. There have been no threats or cause for concern over student safety.Only local families are allowed through the checkpoint.Keller says the escort will go as long as the school deems it is needed.Mandan starts school tomorrow, Thursday the 25th.
