Mandan – The city of Mandan has a slogan…”Where The West Begins”…and city leaders are hoping many people and business’ will begin their journey here in Morton County.
According to Census estimates, the city’s population is expected to have increased by 21-percent since 2010.
In an effort to continue to lure people, the city has offered up a number of assistance programs and incentives for those looking to build in Mandan.
“The storefront improvement program has probably been the most popular, it provides matching funds, dollar for dollar up to $30,000 to improve the exterior of street facing sides of buildings, and so that one has really been important to us” Said Ellen Huber, Mandan’s Director Of Business Development.
But what is it that makes Mandan so appealing?
“Mandan just offers tremendous opportunity, and really and opportunity to still kinda get in at a ground-level where you can get more property for the dollar”
One of those business owners that chose Mandan is Allen Miller…He and Cody Stern founded Anyleaks Construction Services in 2011…now they have plans to open a new restaurant next year on Main Street, named the Old 10 bar and grille.
“We wanted to be anywhere that’s visible, obviously main street is visible we wanted to be downtown, that was kind of the biggest appeal,it also allowed us to renovate another building and make downtown a little nicer.” Said Miller.
And they’re not the first new restaurant to call Mandan home, other recent additions include, Taylor Made BBQ, Grand Junction Subs, The Mandan Depot Bier Hall and Dickey’s Barbecue Pit…they all took advantage of Mandan’s Restaurant Rewards program that offers a 1% rebate on sales tax for the first 5 years of business.
Huber tells me they’ve got some exciting news coming for 2019, but can’t release the details yet because of confidentiality promises…whatever it may be, Mandan says they’ll continue to grow for the foreseeable future.
