Mandan Police and Fire Departments Battle it out in First ‘Brave the Shave’

The Mandan Fire and Police Departments battled it out during their first time hosting Brave the Shave.

The Police and Fire Chief had their heads shaved in unison. The kids took to the chairs next, and got to pop a balloon in favor of their favorite department.

Mandan Police Chief Jason Ziegler has been shaving his head for four years. He says he’s been growing it out for a couple months, and it was about time.

The event is all an effort to fight childhood cancer.

Chief Ziegler adds, “It shows everybody that your community is behind you. You know, no matter what ailment you hit in life and what types of hurdles, you’ve got your community behind you. It’s such an important event.”

Before the event even started, the departments raised $12,000.

The Police Chief says he plans on making this an annual event. And, next year, he’s sure they’ll top that.
