Morton County Sheriff K-9 Mako helps officers with drug busts, everyday patrol, tracking, and evidence search.
The Sheriff’s Office has had a K-9 program for over 20 years now. They have two dogs, Gabber and Mako. And, they need protection, just like officers do.
Mako just received his first ballistic and stab proof vest, which will protect him out on the job. It was donated to the department by an anonymous donor.
MCSO Deputy and K-9 handler Joshua Pastir explains, “For anytime that we have to deploy him in a situation where there’s just a higher risk, we can help eliminate that risk by giving him that vest.”
Mako just had his third birthday. Deputy Pastir says K-9s are generally retired around 8 or 9.
