A McHenry woman is the state’s newest millionaire. Tammy Edland won the North Dakota lottery, cashing in on $1 million.
This makes Edland the largest pick and click online play winner in state history. Edland told KX that she made the 2 and half hour drive to Bismarck this morning, after she finished up some chores.
She then headed to the capital where Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem handed her the check.
Edland said she was in disbelief when she first discovered the news.
“Yeah I was wondering if it was some kind of scam at first. So I had to go check the app because I hadn’t checked in on it for awhile. Then I checked the email for the form to fill out and it was true.”
Edland’s husband told KX that he complained when he would see that Edland was spending money on the lottery but now says he takes it all back.
The attorney general says it’s a historic day for North Dakota
“So I have instructions for Randy that if anyone wins a million dollars I get a call at home … so he did, I wasn’t there,” says Stenehjem.
Edland says she plans on first paying off her farm equipment debt and then says she might get her husband a new pick up.
Which is very nice of her considering her husband always tells her to quit playing the lottery.
She says the money comes at crucial time after having been financially struggling in previous months.
