The Mega Millions jackpot has increased to $654,000,000– just $2,000,000 short of the highest one ever. Nobody in North Dakota has ever won the jackpot, but that could change with Tuesday’s drawing.
There are some extra benefits to choosing the winning numbers in our state. North Dakota is one of only six states where winners can stay anonymous and the state tax rate on the winnings is a low 2.9%. Even though there’s only a 1:303,000,000 chance of winning the jackpot, we asked some local lottery players to imagine what they’d do with the grand prize.
“I really don’t know, it’s kind of hard to believe a person could win around here. But I’d spend it, I guess,” says Rick Hornaday, Potential Lottery Winner.
“I would donate a lot of it, I don’t need this much money. I’d give a pretty good chunk of it away,” says Jerry Anderson, Potential Lottery Winner.
On the bright side, the overall chance of winning any prize in the Mega Millions is only 1:24.
