A Minot teacher has been announced as the fourth finalist for state teacher of the year.
State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler became an honorary Sunnyside Star as she made the presentation at Sunnyside Elementary to Sara Medalen.

All of the students and staff broke out into song to welcome the special guests including school board members and the Minot superintendent.
Medalen said it was the efforts of other staff and students that made her a finalist.

(Sara Medalen, Teacher of the Year Finalist) “I would not be a finalist if it wasn’t for all those amazing adults in this room who work with me and collaborate with me. And you know what else? I would not be here without all of you because you are all…stars!”

The other three finalists were notified at their schools in New Rockford, Mapleton, and Grand Forks last week.
The state teacher of the year will be named by Baesler and Governor Burgum next week.
