Miss N.D. Scholarship Organization supports Cara Mund

The Miss North Dakota Scholarship Organization issued a statement Friday afternoon in support of current Miss America Cara Mund and her five-page letter to former Miss Americas.

Mund was Miss North Dakota 2017 and went on to win the Miss America title.

In her letter, Mund accuses the Miss America Organization management of bullying, intimidating and belittling her, among a number of other actions, that Mund says runs contrary to Miss America’s stated goals of empowerment and giving a voice to women.

In a statement posted to its Facebook account, the North Dakota organization stated, “The Miss North Dakota Scholarship Organization stands by and supports our Forever Miss North Dakota, our Miss America Cara Mund. Cara has always been a strong leader and an advocate for women’s empowerment and we were so disheartened to learn that she has been silenced and belittled by those who claim to fight for those same values.”

The organization praised Mund’s bravery in writing the letter.

“While we have not spoken out on these issues in the past months, as to not let our position further negatively impact Cara’s experience this year, we are speaking up today to say that all of North Dakota stands with Cara and we hope to see positive change within this organization to continue to support and empower the young women who are participating in the Miss America Organization to achieve their educational and career goals,” the organization wrote.
