Light and fluffy snow is the forecast highlight today. Many are waking up to anywhere between 2″ and 6″. We’ll have a brief lull in the snow this morning but a second round of snow will bring moderate and sometimes heavy snowfall later this morning and into the afternoon. Accumulation will total around 3″-6″ in the west and 6″-10″ in central and eastern ND. Highs today will warm into the upper single digits to the mid teens. Wind will increase to around 15 and 20 mph gusting to around 25 and 30 later this afternoon. This will bring blowing and drifting snow later today and into tonight.
Tonight, snow will eventually taper after midnight. Colder air funnels in and drops the lows to anywhere from zero to -10. Wind chills will stay low all throughout the day Tuesday. Wind shifts from the northwest to about 10 to 20 mph.
Expect frigid highs all week. Many around zero. Very few chances for snow with with a brief reprieve from the colder air this weekend. Right now, highs are projected to return to the teens. Long-rang models are suggesting a return to arctic temperatures into the next week.
