Montana family is hiking their way through all 50 states

News

Chet and Jamie Blotske have a plan to travel to all fifty states, and they are not cheating themselves out of the experience by stopping off at a motel after each long drive.

They plan to visit most of the states in their 31 foot RV.

“We are experiencing things we have never seen before, so we are experiencing them together. It’s quite the bonding experience,” said Jamie Blotske.

The family also plains of making the experience more than just a sightseeing trip, because they plan on going hiking in all 50 states.

“We don’t want to just go and view. We want to get in there,” said Chet Blotske.

Chet and Jamie are being accompanied on their trips by their two young children Bear and Rowen, and the young couple who has been married for only eight years said this experience is mainly for them.

“I just think it is something that is being lost in today’s world. Screens are really being pushed in front of kids and technology, so you really have to make an effort to get kids outdoors anymore,” said Jamie Blotske.

Chet said he hopes the experience helps make his kids into more well-rounded human beings as they get older, and Jamie said that so far the kids seem to be enjoying the hiking trips.

“When we get the backpack out he(Rowen) is crawling in it. He is ready to go”.

So far the family has gone hiking in six states( Arizona, Nevada, California, Montana, Wyoming, and New Mexico), and they are documenting their experiences on their website, Backpacking Blotskes, hoping it encourages more families to do the same.

“It was really cool when we are driving down the road and Rowen puts his arm around my neck, puts his chin on my shoulder and just sits there. That is really cool,” said Chet Blotske.

Right Now the family from Montana is in North Dakota crossing another state off their list.

They are preparing for a hike in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

The Blotske family said it will take them about three years to travel to all fifty states.

They are visiting three to four at a time to accommodate their work schedules.
