Morton County asks boaters to be mindful of wake

Due to rising water levels in the Missouri River, Morton County is asking boaters to be mindful of their wake. It’s causing damage to residential property along the banks.

There are currently 11,000 registered boats in the Bismarck-Mandan area. With that much traffic comes rocky waters. And it’s those waves that are starting to erode the land along the shoreline and some residents are noticing.

“We’re just asking people to have some consideration, kind of be aware of how big the wake is behind your boat and at what speed does your boat leave a bigger wake. The other thing that people can do is stay further out toward the middle of the river and not move up close to the shoreline,” said Morton County commission chairman Bruce Strinden.

This isn’t a mandatory restriction, just merely a suggestion.
