Mother raises awareness of West Nile Virus

Last year, there were 62 cases of West Nile in North Dakota, ultimately killing two people. Benny Howling Wolf was just 3 years old when he contracted the virus in 2016. 

Today, his mother told his emotional story, with Benny and his sister by her side. She recounted the events of her little boy slipping in and out of a coma, having severe inflammation in his brain. Howling Wolf never wants a family to go through what they have, so she’s advocating for the virus to be tested more frequently. 

“It can affect anybody that’s healthy, young, active. It’ll attack anybody. And I just want to try to save that. If it’s one person, we’ll do it,” said Jessica Howling Wolf.

The West Nile Virus is carried by mosquitoes. Wearing the proper clothing and using bug repellant with deet will lessen your changes of getting it.
