The woman accused of killing a Minot man last November takes the stand.
Kommika Gregory testified for nearly an hour this afternoon.
Gregory is charged with Class Double A Murder in the shooting death of Ronald Thompson at a Minot apartment 11 months ago.
But she says it was self defense.
And today, after the prosecution had wrapped up its case, the defense presented just one witness – Kommika Gregory.
She says she feared for her life due to earlier threats and brought a handgun to the apartment to talk with another man – her ex-boyfriend – when Thompson made threats against her.
(Kommika Gregory, Defendant) “Soon as I started going out of the room, he stepped in front of me and was like I know you got that gun. He was just rockin and he was like, I’ll take that gun from you and I’ll shoot you with that gun. You ain’t got the heart to pull the trigger.”
(Defense Attorney) “What happened then?”
(Kommika Gregory, Defendant) “At that point he pushed me, I pushed him and told him to back up and then he rushed me but when he rushed me, I shot him.”
When asked why she shot the man, Gregory said she wanted to get out and protect herself and not let him kill her.
She added she does not feel like she did anything wrong for trying to protect herself.
Closing arguments will be held in the morning before the case goes to the 12-member jury – which is likely to happen before Noon tomorrow.
